Thymosin Beta-4 (TB-4) is a naturally occurring protein composed of 43 amino acids, found in almost all human and animal cells. It plays a critical role in cellular repair, regeneration, and immune modulation. TB-4 is particularly abundant in platelets and is released at sites of tissue injury to promote healing and recovery.

You may know TB-4 as TB-500; they are closely related but not identical. TB-500 is a synthetic peptide derived from a portion of the Thymosin Beta-4 protein. It is designed to mimic the activity of TB-4 and contains a specific sequence that is responsible for its regenerative and anti-inflammatory effects. TB-4 has a broader range of biological activities, and is rarely used in its complete form in clinical or research settings because it is harder to produce and stabilize.

Science-Backed Research

  • Actin Binding:  Binds to G-actin (globular actin) to regulate actin polymerization, which is crucial for cell migration and tissue repair.
  • Wound Healing:  Promotes migration and differentiation of keratinocytes and fibroblasts, essential for tissue repair and regeneration.
  • Angiogenesis:  Stimulates the formation of new blood vessels by upregulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
  • Anti-inflammatory Effects:  Reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, aiding in the resolution of inflammation.
  • Antioxidant Activity:  Protects cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis.
  • Immune Modulation:  Enhances the function of immune cells like T-cells and macrophages.
